We're Back - BHRA Conference!
That's right, it's back, our annual BHRA conference! The Executive Board is so excited to be able to reinstate this event and can't wait to have you be a part of the day. We have some wonderful international and local speakers lined up and believe you will walk away feeling engaged and empowered.
Join us for a half-day event at the Fairmont Southampton Princess, where lunch will be included. You will have the opportunity to network with fellow HR Professionals and BHRA members. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. sharply, with our first speaker starting at 9:30 a.m.

Our Speaker Lineup
Jacqueline Throop-Robinson is the founder of Spark Engagement Inc., a global analytics company in HR technology solutions focusing on employee engagement. Represented by the National Speakers Bureau, Jacqueline shares thought-provoking insights, research and actionable advice on creating passionately engaged workplaces. Jacqueline has also published an Amazon best seller, Fire Up Your Team: 50 Ways for Leaders to Connect, Collaborate and Create with their Teams (2013). Jacqueline holds a BA, BFA, and MA as well as qualifications in adult education from StFX. Jacqueline has worked in the learning and development field as well as corporate management for 30 years. Her clients have included a wide-range of industries around the world. Outside of her work, Jacqueline has co-founded Inspiring Women Nova Scotia, a network of professional women, who speak with high school girls to help them move beyond occupational stereotypes, to ignite aspirations, and to set a course of self-determination.
Sharlyn Lauby is the author of HR Bartender and president of ITM Group Inc., a South Florida based training and human resources consulting firm focused on helping companies retain and engage talent. Sharlyn launched HR Bartender to provide a “friendly place for everyday workplace issues.” It’s been recognized as one of the Top 5 Business Blogs Read by HR Professionals by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and a Top 25 Must-Read Blog for Employers. Named one of the most engaging global HR speakers, Sharlyn shares her knowledge about the profession, business trends and the future workforce. For three years running, she was named a top rated speaker at HR Southwest, the nation’s largest regional conference. She has been rated a top speaker at SHRM’s Annual Conference and her session on workplace metrics was one of a handful selected to be featured as an online learning program. Sharlyn earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida, and currently is recognized as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) and a Certified Professional in Learning Performance (CPLP) from the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
Vanessa Hardy Pickering is one of the original management team of Hamilton’s operations in Bermuda, Vanessa was promoted from Group Controller of Hamilton Insurance Group to Chief Financial Officer of Hamilton Re in September 2015. She has over 15 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry. From April 2012 to October 2012, Vanessa held the position of Senior Vice President, Controller at Ariel Re Bermuda Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., continuing in the position she held with Ariel Reinsurance Company Ltd. Vanessa joined Ariel Re in 2005 after working for two years at Rosemont Reinsurance, Ltd. as Assistant Financial Controller. From 1999 to 2003, Vanessa was employed in Ernst & Young’s Bermuda office. Vanessa, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada. She holds the Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Bermuda.
